The thunderstorms that threatened to pound the metro Atlanta area overnight Wednesday let up and turned into scattered showers.

The storms weakened rapidly, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns told the AJC.

The National Weather Service had issued a tornado watch until 1 a.m. Thursday for 27 counties across north Georgia, but it was called off by 9:45 p.m.

The area is getting a break before the next round of rain.

Thursday is expected to be beautiful, with sunshine and highs in the mid 70s.

There is a 70 percent chance of rain Friday, with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the low 60s.

High temperatures are expected to be in the 60s Saturday and Sunday.
