The rain is on the way, just in time for the Friday afternoon commute. And the showers could bring lightning and damaging winds.

The chance of rain is 70 percent, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz. Scattered showers could pop up through the evening he said.

If you're heading to a high school football scrimmage, you may want to bring an umbrella. But the showers shouldn't last long enough to wash out games, Nitz said.

Cloudy skies are expected to linger through the weekend, when there is a 30 percent of showers, Nitz said. But the forecast for coming days doesn't include any more 90-degree highs.

Saturday's high is expected to reach the upper 80s.
