9:45 p.m.: A major accident is affecting northbound and southbound traffic along SR 23 at Baxley Ridge Drive in Gwinnett County, according to the DOT.

8:10 p.m.: Brrrr! Temperatures will dip to around 15 degrees, according to meteorologist Sean Ryan with the National Weather Service. Light snow continues to fall in the north Georgia mountains.

7:55 p.m.: The number of vehicle accident calls is finally slowing down in Paulding County, Cpl. Brandon Gurley tells us. But many of the county's roads are still icy.

7:30 p.m.: The FAA is reporting minimal delays for flights arriving or departing from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Well, unless you're flying to cities experiencing severe winter weather, such as New York City or Newark, N.J.

5:45 p.m.: DOT crews are reporting patchy black ice forming on some interstates. So far, more than 8,000 tons of salt and rocks have been spread on Georgia roads, and crews plan to continue the work through the night.

5:30 p.m.: All Gwinnett County school activities scheduled for Saturday WILL be held, according to the district's web site.

5 p.m.: Opening ceremonies for DeKalb County parks and recreation department youth basketball and cheerleading is canceled for tonight.

4:45 p.m.: A water main break in Roswell if forcing lanes on South Atlanta Street (Highway 9) to be closed.

4:35 p.m.: Cobb County police are working several multi-vehicle accidents, according to Officer Joe Hernandez.

4:11 p.m.: Fulton County has 6 trucks continuing to spread salt and sand on slick spots, particularly in the south Fulton area. South Fulton residents can report hazardous road conditions at 770-306-3105.

4 p.m.: In less than 24 hours, there have been 158 accidents reported in Forsyth County. Seven of the accidents resulted in injuries.

3:50 p.m.: The MARTA bus is still stuck, and it's sliding, even with the brake on.

3:30 p.m.: School activities are also canceled for Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb and Douglas counties

3:15 p.m.: All Cherokee County school activities and events are canceled for Saturday.

3 p.m.: A MARTA bus is stranded at Donnelly Avenue and Oakland Drive in Fulton County. The bus driver says several other buses are stranded, too.

2:40 p.m.: Meteorologist Trisha Palmer with the National Weather Service says we've probably already reached our high temperature of the day.

1:43 p.m.: Earlier today, ice was reported on these South Fulton roadways: Thaxton Road, Old Fairburn Road to Camp Creek, New Hope to Loch Loman, Cascade Road to Utoy Road, Butner Road to Stone Wall Tell Road and Highway 70, Shirley Drive to I-20.

1:41 p.m.: Atlanta is borrowing trucks to help manage the icy city roads. Read more. If you spot ice on a city street, report it to the city at 404-853-3227. If you see ice on a state road or highway, report it to 511.

1:31 p.m.: Tonight's performance of "A Sordid Affair" at 14th Street Playhouse is canceled.

1:27 p.m.: The snow isn't all bad. Here are some sweet snow photos by AJC photographers.

1:05 p.m.: Since 4 p.m. Thursday, Cobb police have received about 300 calls related to wrecks. Officer Joe Hernandez said police have been able to respond to about half the calls, because officers can't reach many roads. He said police are responding only to critical accidents or ones that they can reach, and are asking people who have had minor accidents to try to call in accident reports or wait until roads clear if they need an officer to come to their home.

1:01 p.m.: Atlanta police say they have seen a huge increase in accident calls. Between 5 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday, APD fielded 229 calls about accidents. On an ordinary day, the police department gets fewer than 115.

12:17 p.m.: In Marietta, all of Johnson Ferry at the Chattahoochee River was closed earlier; reports now say it's open. Riverside Drive at Old Riverside, Hope, Frank and Trowbridge roads are still closed.

12:04 p.m.: It's snowing again in Marietta and Kennesaw, but just flurries. Accumulation unlikely.

11:55 a.m.: Georgia State University is open today. Georgia Tech and Emory are closed. More info on school closings.

11:50 a.m.: The number of 911 calls increased with the ice and snow. DeKalb police spokesman Jason Gagnon said officers worked 120 wrecks in the county between midnight and 11 a.m. Friday, with 18 of the accidents involving injuries. "That's a good bit more than normal," Gagnon said.

11:43 a.m.: In Milton, parts of Cogburn, Redd and Francis roads are impassable. City officials also say State Route 372-Birmingham Highway should not be used.

11:35 a.m.: DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis' office says DeKalb Recorders Court is closed today. DeKalb libraries opened at noon.

11:12 a.m.: The Michael C. Carlos Musuem at Emory University is closed today.

11:07 a.m.: In Alpharetta, Southlake Drive from Douglas Court to Garnett is now closed. Harris Road between Upper Hembree Road and Harris Commons also remains closed.

10:53 a.m.: Emory University changed its status from delayed till 11 a.m. to closed all day. Emory Health Care employees still must report for work. More info on closings.

10:49 a.m.: Because downtown streets were impassable this morning, Xpress buses were only able to serve the Civic Center MARTA station. If the streets don't improve, Xpress might only depart from Civic Center this afternoon. They suggest watching their Twitter account, @xpressga, for updates.

10:38 a.m.: The Department of Transportation says 511 is "inundated with calls," and requests people call only to report ice on state routes or interstates. They recommend you call county public works or county transportation departments for information about local roads.

10:35 a.m.: Heavy icing reported on Ga. Hwy. 5, a major north-south thoroughfare in Cherokee County.

10:26 a.m.: Regarding reports of a 20-car accident at Clairmont and Mason Mill Road, state Department of Transportation officials and DeKalb police say there were a series of stalls, but no physical accident. The vehicles are off to the side.

10:23 a.m.: All four of city of Atlanta's sand trucks are responding to reports of icy streets. A spokeswoman for the Department of Public Works said there are 50 locations pending at 10:15 a.m. Friday. "We are trying to take care arterial streets and connector streets first," said Valerie Bell-Smith. Icy city streets should be reported to 404-853-3227.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is responsible for state routes like Peachtree Street, Piedmont Avenue and Northside Drive. Spokesman David Spear said the state’s first priorities are the interstates. Reports of ice on state roads can be made by calling 511.

10:21 a.m.: Georgia Tech is closed today.

10:13 a.m.: In Paulding County, Highway 92 N between East Paulding Middle School and West Ridge Church is closed due to ice. Government offices are closed in Paulding County today, too.

10:03 a.m.: Coweta administrative offices will remain closed at least until 1 p.m.

9:36 a.m.: All locations of ALFA Driving School delayed till 11 a.m. today.

9:30 a.m.: Alpharetta Department of Public Safety say motorists should avoid Winward Parkway between McGinnis Ferry Road and Club House Drive. Road is open, but "significant icing is present."

9:14 a.m.: Some MARTA bus routes have been rerouted or canceled because of weather. Trains are running normally. MARTA Mobility customers should call 404-848-4212 or 404-848-5000 to get more information about their trips.

9:13 a.m.: Major icing problems reported on DeKalb Avenue in east Atlanta.
