A man arrested last week in connection with a an assault rifle shooting in southeast Atlanta is now being charged with murder.
Demarquez Strozier is accused of gunning down Quentin Teliaferro following a Dec. 8 fight at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Allen Temple Court.
Strozier, 25, allegedly shot Teliaferro once with what appeared to be an AK-47 assault rifle before fleeing the scene, police said.
The bullet struck Teliaferro in the stomach and arm, and he died Thursday from his injuries, Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said.
Witnesses told police the two were arguing over the phone about money, and Teliaferro summoned Strozier, Jones said.
When Strozier arrived at Allen Temple Court, police say Teliaferro punched him.
Strozier then went to his car and allegedly retrieved the assault rifle from the trunk, shooting once at Teliaferro, police said.
Strozier was arrested after the shooting and had already been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery and gun possession while committing a felony.
He remains in the Fulton County jail without bond, and his charges have been upgraded to include murder, Jones said.
Strozier has at least one other battery arrest in 2009 for which he bonded out with was released on $2,000 bond after just one day in custody, and he has prior drug and theft charges, according to Fulton jail records.
