Various sources report that Atlanta-based rapper Dolla was murdered Monday afternoon outside a popular Beverly Hills mall.
The Los Angeles Times and multiple hip-hop Web sites say the Atlanta native, born Roderick Anthony Burton II, was shot in the head while waiting in the valet area of the Beverly Center. He was accompanied by another local rapper, D.J. Shabbazz, the paper reports.
Los Angeles Police will not confirm the victim's identity. Police spokeswoman Karen Rayner said a "person of interest" is being questioned but has not yet been charged in connection with the shooting. He was detained before attempting to board a plane out of Los Angeles International Airport, about 10 miles away from the Beverly Center.
A witness quoted in the Times said the shooter was a woman, but Rayner said she is unaware that the suspect in the murder is female.
