The Atlanta City Council voted Monday to purchase part of the former Ford plant east of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport from Jacoby Development for "runway protection and future airport development."

The purchase of up to 60 acres will cost up to $32.4 million. Atlanta has requested $25.9 million from the Federal Aviation Administration to help offset the cost of the purchase. The city plans to pay the balance of the purchase price with passenger facility charges paid by travelers.
