Atlanta police plan to canvass a southwest Atlanta neighborhood Thursday afternoon looking for clues in the weekend shooting death of a man and a sexual assault that occurred last month.

Jamil Cooper was shot and killed early Sunday at The Park at Lakewood Apartment Homes in the 1900 block of Delowe Drive, police spokeswoman Kim Jones said.

Several police units will be joining investigators from the homicide and special victims units in the canvass, which will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday.

"These tactical canvasses have been successful in helping APD secure leads in several cases," Jones said.

Officers will also be seeking evidence in a Feb. 21 sexual assault on nearby Plaza Lane, she said.

Police have not said whether the two cases are believed to be related.
