An Atlanta police officer was involved in a vehicle accident while en route to a burglary call Saturday, a department spokesman said.
It was the second traffic-related incident involving an APD officer Saturday. Earlier, an officer hit a pedestrian trying to run across the Downtown Connector.
Police spokesman Officer John Chafee said officers responding to the burglary call were involved in an accident at Macon Drive and Bromack Drive in south Atlanta.
Two occupants in another vehicle received minor injuries, but no one was transported to a hospital, Chafee said.
“At this point it appears that the officer was not at fault,” the spokesman said.
In an incident early Saturday morning, a middle-aged man running across the Downtown Connector near I-20 was struck by an Atlanta patrol car and was hospitalized in serious condition, authorities said.
The APD said its officer tried to avoid hitting the unidentified 53-year-old man but was unable to miss him.
The man was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. He suffered severe compound fractures to one of his legs, according the Channel 2 Action News.
The officer, who was not injured, was on DUI patrol when the incident occurred. The patrol car was damaged on the driver’s side.
