Atlanta, rated the best singles city in the U.S. last year, fell to sixth in Forbes.com’s latest rankings.

Forbes ranked 40 of the largest metro areas in seven categories: coolness, cost of living alone, culture, job growth, online dating participation, nightlife and the ratio of singles to the entire population.

New York City topped this year’s list, followed by Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Washington D.C. and Atlanta. Atlanta has made the top 10 eight of nine times since Forbes started the rankings.

“Atlanta’s got a lot going for it, from the low cost of living -- the average one-bedroom apartment costs between $500 and $700 -- to cultural events in Piedmont Park as well as a vibrant music scene,” Forbes noted this year.

Atlanta ranked first in cost of living, third in job growth and fifth in online dating, but only 20th in nightlife and 25th in culture.
