The suspect in a food mart robbery who was on the Atlanta Police Department's "most wanted" list recently turned himself in.

Kenneth Hayes, 28, was sought by police in the July 7 robbery at Lowery Food Mart. A man at the food mart said he was physically assaulted and robbed by two men around 5:20 a.m., a police report says.

The victim told police he locked the front door with about six customers still sitting inside at the gaming machines. He was removing about $600 from one of the machines when the two men began to assault him, the report says.

One man held the apparent store employee from behind while the other “struck him repeatedly in the face,” police said in the report. The victim dropped the money and the men allegedly picked it up and fled the scene.

The victim “sustained minor injuries to the right side of the face and mouth,” mostly swelling and lacerations, the report says.

Hayes turned himself in to the Fulton County Jail on Sept. 4 and has not been released. Police did not have further details.
