Atlanta court wins grant to assist transitions into community

The Community Court of the Municipal Court of Atlanta recently was awarded a Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $27,960. According to Community Court Coordinator Ashlee’ Picket, this is a significant increase in comparison to previous years.
The CDBG grant creates local jobs for individuals who have come through the court system in correlation to “quality of life” crimes such as prostitution, panhandling and low level drug offenses. The grant is also instrumental for providing shelter and services for defendants with mental health concerns.
The Community Court represents a synergy among the criminal justice system, local government agencies, non-profit organizations and the private sector. It currently offers several services to the residents of Atlanta including Teens Learning Control, Restorative Justice and Veterans Assistance.
