An Atlanta bishop and well known gospel singer was arrested Wednesday afternoon for allegedly taking a gun to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Bishop William Henry Murphy III was carrying a 9 mm handgun in his carry-on luggage, according to the warrant by the Clayton County Police Department. A Transportation Security Administration official said the weapon was discovered during an X-ray screening. Murphy does have a license to carry permit, the warrant states.

According to the church’s Facebook page, Murphy had just been consecrated from pastor to bishop on Monday.

Murphy was charged with misdemeanor possession of a weapon in an unauthorized area. He appeared in court Thursday, where the judge set his bond at $2,500. He could face civil penalties of up to $7,500, according to Channel 2 Action News.
