An Athens man who lost control of his sport utility vehicle and crashed Thursday on an interstate ramp in Cobb County has died, police said Saturday.
Hayes R. Fairchild, 31, was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital after the crash but died of his injuries Friday, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.
Police say Fairchild was driving a silver 2001 Land Rover Discovery on Thursday morning when he attempted to negotiate the ramp from northbound I-75 to eastbound I-285 and lost control of the SUV.
Police blamed excessive speeding, which caused Fairchild to hit a retaining wall. Anyone with information regarding the fatality crash is asked to call (770) 499-3987.
