Fayette County is establishing a Community for the Creative Arts at Rising Starr Middle School.

The Board of Education approved the measure on March 26 as part of an effort to provide students with more opportunities to explore careers in the performing, media and visual arts. Students in seventh and eighth grade will be chosen by application and lottery to form creative teams that will collaborate with teachers and industry experts to produce works.

The county will hire a program coordinator and purchase necessary equipment. The school will form an advisory council and a nonprofit booster organization that will pursue additional outside funding.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
