An arsonist tried to torch a medical office in Lilburn on Tuesday, however the blaze apparently burned itself out before anyone arrived, according to Gwinnett County firefighters.

Employees at Georgia Medical Center, a family practice and pain management clinic on Lawrenceville Highway, called 911 after arriving to work and finding the office filled with smoke. Firefighters found a broken window and some fire damage which did not extend beyond the receptionist's office. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and determined that the fire was started during the early hours of the morning.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Gwinnett County Fire, Arson and Explosives Investigation Section at 678-518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1-800-282-5804. Georgia Arson Control offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for arson.

No one returned a call to the doctors' office on Tuesday afternoon.

Lt. Colin Rhoden, a spokesman for Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services, said that investigators have not yet determined a motive for the arson. He said investigators do not believe the crime is connected to two other arsons that occurred in May at obstetric and gynecology offices in Lilburn and Marietta.
