Community members will come together on Jan. 16 to honor the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. through projects designed to help make local refugees make a smooth transition into new lives in the United States.

The Lutheran Community of Metro Atlanta and the Clarkston Community Center will hold the MLK Day of Service 2012, will include volunteers packaging hygiene kits, rice and collecting pots and pans. It will also include a clean-up of the Clarkston community, with help from the Clarkston Development Foundation.

The event will be held from 9 .am. to 1 p.m. at the Clarkston Community Center, 3701 College Ave.  The event will be followed by a community celebration.

Lutheran Services of Georgia provides assistance to refugees in Atlanta through resettlement, employment and cultural orientation services.
