Atlanta school officials are investigating complaints that a school bus driver ordered several middle school students to get out and walk after the driver got lost.

The students attend Ralph Bunche Middle School and had been at an after-school program Monday afternoon, according to parents. One parent told Channel 2 Action News that he found his 12-year-old daughter after 8 p.m. walking down a road alone.

The girl, Inayah Akbar told Channel 2 that the driver was frustrated because she kept getting lost and pulled over on Campbellton Road and ordered the kids off the bus.

"She said, ‘Get off my bus. I have other things to do and I'm trying to get home,'" the girl told Channel 2.

Her father, Michael Richard, told Channel 2 that was waiting for her at her bus stop and when Akbar did not show up, he became worried and went to the school. He said he found her after 8 p.m. walking down Barge Road alone.

Atlanta Public Schools spokesman Keith Bromery told Channel 2 that the district is following up on the report. He says it's unacceptable for a driver to drop a child off anywhere except the designated bus stop.
