Atlanta police are looking for the gunman who shot a man in a wheelchair during an altercation early Friday, police said.

The shooting happened just before 5 a.m. at a home in the 2700 block of 7th Avenue, in a neighborhood off Cleveland Avenue.

Atlanta police Capt. Adam Lee III told the AJC that officers responding to a person shot call found the wounded victim, who is in his late 40s.

Lee said the man, an amputee whose name has not been released, was wounded by a bullet that penetrated the back of his wheelchair and went into his shoulder blade.

The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Police are looking for a man who had been visiting the house with his sister when the altercation that led to the shooting broke out, Lee said.

"The suspect is also an amputee, from what we gathered," Lee said.

After the shooting, the suspect, whose name has not been released, allegedly forced his sister to drive him to another location, "so we're looking at possible kidnapping charges as well," Lee said.
