The Alpharetta City Council on Monday approved renewing its “Parks Without Borders” program to waive non-resident fees for Johns Creek residents for youth recreational sports.

Under the joint memorandum of understanding, families from Alpharetta and Johns Creek pay resident fees on each other’s selected, youth sports programs. The new memorandum covers the 2017 and 2018 spring and fall seasons.

The initiative started in 2015 with girls softball and was expanded last year to baseball and lacrosse. In 2016, Alpharetta youth sports enrolled 30 more youngsters from Johns Creek than the previous year, while Johns Creek hosted 73 more players from Alpharetta than in 2015, staff says.

“Alpharetta and Johns Creek staff have independently and collectively evaluated the effectiveness of the 2016 program and agree it continues to meet the goal of being beneficial to residents of both cities,” according to an Alpharetta staff report to the Council.
