The Alpharetta City Council has approved a real estate deal with a development entity and the Fulton County Board of Education that will result in a private drive being converted into a city street.

The agreement involves Teasley Street, a private drive off Milton Avenue into Milton Center. Though Teasley does not meet the criteria of a city street, it is used as such, “providing an unsafe cut-through from Canton Street to Milton Avenue,” according to a staff report.

Under the agreement, River Rock Development LLC and West Canton LLC will pay the Fulton schools $100,000 for the street, which will be handed over to Alpharetta. The city will then spend up to $75,000 adding a curb, gutter, sidewalks, street lights and other measures as needed to bring the street up to the standards of a public road, staff said.

“In addition to providing access to the developer’s condominium project, the road will improve vehicular and pedestrian access to the school and to downtown business, and benefit public safety in general,” staff said.
