An Alpharetta man is one of the 27 people featured in a recently released book about generosity.

Published by Atlanta-based, Christian financial advisers Ronald Blue & Co, the stories in "Faces of Generosity" highlight those called by God to give of their time, money and talent.

Michael Belk answered when he said God asked him, “What are you doing with all that I gave to you? Are you using it all for yourself or sharing it with others?”

His background as a successful fashion photographer and fashion advertising agency owner led him to create "Journeys with the Messiah."

Of the photography project that depicts Jesus Christ’s timeless messages from a modern perspective, Belk said the process brought him closer to God.

“It became obvious that He was going to great lengths to get my attention by using my love of photography and my love of travel to draw me in closer that I may know Him more,” Belk said.

Belk’s concept for the book was about filling a personal need to share the savior Belk was getting to know. That meant more than church on Sundays and prayers during emergencies, he said.

“Ultimately, I discovered that my relationship was nowhere near as deep as I thought; that I, too, was missing out,” Belk said.

The project itself brought Belk closer to Christ and more appreciative on Christmas of His gifts.

“Today, Christmas for me is less a celebration of His birth, but a reflection on the ultimate Christmas Gift He gave to me in His death,” Belk said.

Other stories in “Faces of Generosity” include a medical mission to build hospitals in third world countries, a dental office with a clothes closet, a couple in Georgia who moved to urban Atlanta in order to redefine community and a North Carolina couple who adopted 15 children.
