A 24-year-old motorist was seriously injured Monday after striking two vehicles and a tree while fleeing from an accident involving a third vehicle in Marietta, police said.

The incident happened about noon on South Marietta Parkway between Powers Ferry and Lower Roswell roads, according to a news release from the Marietta Police Department.

A white Ford F-250 driven by Garrett Hamlin, of Norcross, was heading east on South Marietta when it struck a black Ford F-250 also eastbound on the same street, police said.

Hamlin tried to flee but lost control of his vehicle and crossed the grass center median into the westbound lanes, where he ran into a blue 2005 Dodge Caravan and a gold 2001 Mitsubishi Galant head-on, police said.

Hamlin’s truck then veered off the road and hit a tree.

Marietta Fire Department personnel extricated Hamlin from his vehicle and took him to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, Marietta. The man was listed in serious but stable condition at the hospital, and there were no other reports of injuries, police said.

The incident remains under investigation, and charges against Hamlin were pending, police said.
