Agnes Scott College received a $1 million pledge from an anonymous graduate and her husband to support faculty at the private women's college in Decatur.

The gift is the largest the college has received for faculty development and comes at a time when many colleges have cut back in this area as they tightened their budgets because of the weak economy.

Professors can use the money for a wide variety of purposes, such as research, developing new courses and visiting scholarly archives. This training often improves faculty's teaching skills.
