A Waffle House in Acworth failed a health inspection in late October with a score of 56.

A representative for the Waffle House at 5350 Cherokee Street in Bartow County told Channel 2's Carol Sbarge how the restaurant fixed the problems and got its score up to an 87.

Waffle House says the associates at the Cherokee Street restaurant were not following company procedures.

Violations included mold growth in the ice machine, cooks/employees not washing hands properly and excessive amount of dishes stored as clean with stuck waste food still on them.

Sbarge went to the Waffle House to ask about the violations. She was referred to the corporate office.

In an email statement, Waffle House said: "Our corporate training department and the Senior Vice President are involved in ensuring our food safety protocols are in place in this restaurant. Most of the violations were corrected at the time of the inspection, and the maintenance issues are being rectified."

The company went on to say it makes every effort to provide a clean and safe restaurant for customers. Waffle House went on the apologize for letting customers down.

The Waffle House just off Interstate 75 at the Bartow-Cobb County line opened in the 1990s.
