Acworth police are asking residents to bring photos of the old town jail to an open house from 6-9 p.m. today at the building at 4357 Senator Russell Ave.

The open house will coincide with Christmas activities in downtown Acworth, such as the lighting of the town tree. Police hope to convert the building into a downtown museum and meeting facility and display the photos and other memorabilia when the project is complete.

The old jail was built in 1935 and was last used by police in 1995. The Downtown Development Authority and the Lake Allatoona Preservation Authority have used the building since then.

Photos that residents bring can be copied and returned. Other items will be placed on display. For information, contact Officer Jeff Rose at 678-801-4073 or jrose@acworth.org
