A Cobb County man has a second chance at life because a police officer was in the right place at the right time.

The man was driving down a road in Cobb County when he had a heart attack.

Acworth police Sgt. Brian Hunt was driving by when he spotted the BMW in the woods before any 911 call had been issued.

“When I just pulled up I thought it was a regular old wreck,” Hunt said.

He quickly ran over to check on the driver.

“I saw his neck back on the neck rest and saw he wasn't breathing,” Hunt said. “I checked his pulse and couldn't find a pulse on him.”

Dash cam video shows Hunt, with the help of bystanders, pull the man out of the car and give him CPR.

"They tell us as quick as we can get CPR started, the better chance there is to get a life saved,” Hunt said.

Acworth officers get recertified every two years. He knew the dispatch hadn't gone out and firefighters were likely minutes away.

Onlookers called 911 and emergency personnel arrived within minutes and continued CPR. As the victim was heading to the hospital, Hunt received some good news.

“He's got a pulse on his own now. You might have saved his life,” an EMT told Hunt over dispatch.

"It's amazing that God just put me there at the right time, right when I was supposed to be there, to do what I needed to do,” Hunt said.

Hunt credits one of his colleagues for also helping in the life-saving rescue.

The driver, a 48-year-old man, remains in the hospital, but is alert and responsive, according to Hunt.
