Some additional relief for drivers headed to northern Forsyth County has arrived, as the last three-and-one-half mile section of the Georgia 400 northbound widening project — the stretch between Bald Ridge Marina Road and Ga. 306 —opened to traffic Sept. 18.

While northbound work is essentially complete, GDOT reminds drivers that some minor concrete and striping work will continue that may necessitate nighttime lane closures early in the week.

It’s part of a larger part of a $47 million project widening Ga. 400 to three lanes in each direction over a 14-mile stretch between the MacFarland Parkway interchange and Ga. 369. The project’s the result of a cooperative effort between Forsyth County and state officials which included an infrastructure bond referendum passed by Forsyth voters in November of 2014.

Southbound widening construction began in May of this year and the first four-mile stretch is expected to finish by Jan. 1.
