The 2017 National Merit Scholarship program is underway and Fulton County has 120 students from its school system listed as semifinalists.

Fulton County Schools recently announced the list of high school seniors who will continue on to the national competition, vying for one of 7,500 Merit scholarships — all worth a total of $33 million.

Northview High School had the most seniors recognized as semifinalists with 32. Chattahoochee and Johns Creek high schools followed behind Northview with 23 and 21 students respectively.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation selected area high school seniors as semifinalists based on their PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test results. To move on to the final round, students must maintain “high academic performance,” collect recommendations, earn high SAT scores and complete a detailed scholarship application.
