As The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported, Latino voter registration surged nearly 20 percent in recent months, and Latino advocates say Donald Trump's comments about immigrants and immigration had a lot to do with it.

Registration statistics maintained by the Secretary of State’s Office shows 16,254 Latinos joined the state’s roll of active voters from October 2015 to April 2016. A close look at those statistics shows Gwinnett County led the way, with 3,585 new Latino voters. That’s 22 percent of all new Latino voters.

Here’s a look at the top 10 counties for new Latino voters:

• Gwinnett: 3,585

• Cobb: 2,030

• Fulton: 1,473

• DeKalb: 1,001

• Hall: 799

• Whitfield: 647

• Cherokee: 436

• Chatham: 421

• Clayton: 384

•  Forsyth: 360
