The Roswell City Council Monday night unanimously approved an adaptive sports field project for the Waller Park extension-the first project of its kind in the city.

The field is designed to be barrier-free and handicapped-accessible with a synthetic surface designed for wheel chairs and walkers and to help prevent injuries. City officials said the design will enable developmentally-disabled children and adults to play multiple sports on a level surface.

Funds for the $126,000 project were raised by the Roswell Rotary Club, the Roswell Recreation Association, the Friends of Roswell Parks and through various private donations.

Park officials said groundbreaking is tentatively set for early fall and plans are to have the field operational in the spring of 2016.

The park’s located at 160 Dobbs Drive.
