Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill is no stranger to being the subject of rap music. Rapper Waka Flaka Flame gave a shout-out to the sheriff in his latest release “Workin.” So did the late rapper Slim Dunkin in his song “Blind Side.”

But one wannabe gangsta rapper stepped over the legal line recently when he posted a rap on SoundCloud saying he’d been in the Clayton County jail and threatened to shoot Hill in the face. Instead of getting the street cred he was hoping for, the aspiring artist was facing felony charges of terrorist threats.

The unnamed would-be rapper proved to be anything but a gangster rapper when prosecutors and federal investigators caught up with him. Authorities did not release the name of the rapper and efforts to identify him were unsuccessful.

He doesn’t live in the ‘hood. He holds down a full-time job. He has never been arrested on a felony and is a reservist in the military. In fact, investigators said he was frightened and remorseful when they talked to him. The guy’s squeaky-clean image (surely a death knell to his rap career) prompted investigators to go easy on him even asking Hill if he still wanted the guy arrested. Hill agreed to give the guy a break only if he apologized to him in a rap.

The aspiring rapper quickly composed a mea culpa - a freestyle rap of apology - and posted it on SoundCloud, an online site where people can post audio-related recordings. He sent a copy of it to the sheriff’s investigators with the attached message: “Here’s 13 bars, freestyle just like the other one. Tell him I’ll never pop up on his radar again!” The rap has since been removed from SoundCloud.

Efforts to reach Hill were unsuccessful and Clayton County District Attorney Tracy Graham Lawson declined comment. Hill’s pardon of sorts drew mixed responses on his Nixel.com account, which provides updates form the sheriff’s office.

“Wonder if I should post an apology rap for my speeding ticket..After all I’m a productive citizen,” one follower posted.

“Everyone makes a mistake and this young man acted out before he thought about his reaction,” another posted. “Thank you Sheriff Hill for allowing him a second chance to make it right…..no matter what anyone says you truly care about the citizens of CC…”
