New Georgia justice already raising campaign cash

Georgia Supreme Court Justice David Nahmias has formed a campaign committee and enlisted a top GOP fundraiser for his 2010 election bid.

In August, Gov. Sonny Perdue appointed Nahmias, then the U.S. attorney in Atlanta, to the state Supreme Court bench to replace Leah Ward Sears, who retired. On Tuesday, Nahmias said his campaign has retained Leigh Ann Gillis, who raised money for Perdue's 2006 reelection campaign.

Nahmias reported he raised more than $60,000 last month at a campaign kickoff event in Atlanta. His campaign's board members include former State Attorney General Mike Bowers, former State Bar of Georgia president Jeffrey Bramlett and Nahmias' wife, Catherine O'Neal, an Atlanta attorney.
