Nathan Deal’s help from national GOP governors tops $4 million

The Republican Governors Association poured $1.5 million into Gov. Nathan Deal’s re-election fight during the first few weeks of October, according to newly filed disclosures.

Almost all of that went for media advertising and mailers blasting his opponent, Democratic state Sen. Jason Carter.

Reports filed this week show that with two weeks left in the race, the national GOP governors group and its affiliated political action committee has so far put more than $4 million into Deal’s re-election effort. That’s about 100 times what the Democratic Governors Association has reported spending on Carter.

The RGA’s chairman, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, visited Georgia last week in support of the governor and has promised big support for Deal from the group.
