The acting fire chief of Morrow is on paid administrative leave while authorities investigate accusations he raped a woman in DeKalb County.

Herb Jones is out on $25,000 bond and is facing a felony rape charge tied to the March incident in Decatur, Channel 2 Action News reported Tuesday evening. Decatur police is investigating the case.

Jones was appointed acting fire chief of Morrow’s 33-member department last July. Morrow Mayor Jeff DeTar learned of Jones’ predicament a few days ago.

“He’s a friend of mine,” DeTar said Tuesday. “My first reaction was complete shock after that I needed to know what’s going on but I can’t find out what’s going. I’ve had no contact with him. We have no details.”

“We haven’t actually replaced him. He’s on administrative leave,” DeTar said. “He’s still acting interim fire chief.”

Morrow has about 7,100 residents.
