The state will add 15 parole officers Friday to help supervise 22,000 ex-cons after a training class graduation Friday.

The State Board of Pardons and Paroles said it has about 300 officers. That is a caseload of 73 parolees per officer in a state with one of the highest incarceration rates in the nation.

The board said it uses a "balanced approach of surveillance and  treatment intervention" to try and stop the offenders from offending  again.

Graduation is 10 a.m. at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth. Information at www.pap.state.ga.us.
