Some 3,200 Georgia Power customers were without electricity in Cobb County Tuesday morning, primarily along South Cobb Drive, following Tropical Storm Irma, according to County Chairman Mike Boyce.

About 50 Cobb EMC households are without power elsewhere in the county. Cobb is home to about 800,000 people. Boyce said crews are working to restore power to everyone by mid afternoon.

Officials say Cobb was relatively lucky. Two people were killed by falling trees in other parts of metro Atlanta.

Seventy-one trees were downed in Cobb by the storm’s strong winds and rain, but no related injuries were reported and no roads were blocked Tuesday.

Still, residents were asked to stay home until all debris has been cleared.

County offices, schools and courts are closed Tuesday. The cities of Marietta and Kennesaw have resumed services.

Fallen trees killed two people Monday.
