The big entertainment and retail district in the works for Gwinnett County’s Infinite Energy Center campus now has a name and a target opening date.
North American Properties will break ground next spring on the 118-acre mixed-use project now known as "Revel." It hopes the development will be open by the fall of 2020.
Retail, restaurant and office space are slated to be included, as well as “luxury residences,” a hotel and a movie theater. It will all be built on county-owned property that surrounds the Infinite Energy Arena, the popular 13,000-seat venue just off Sugarloaf Parkway and I-85 near Duluth.

“At Revel, guests will come to celebrate long before the curtains rise to hours after the final encore,” Liz Gillespie, partner and vice president of marketing at North American Properties, said in a statement sent Thursday to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “This carefully curated destination will be vibrant, photo-worthy and meaningful for the Gwinnett community.”
North American, the team behind Alpharetta's uber-popular Avalon development and the revival of Midtown Atlanta's Atlantic Station, recently launched social media accounts and an initial website for the Revel project.
The website suggests that the project will include “330,000 square feet of retail, restaurants and entertainment,” 600,000 square feet of Class A office space, 700 residential units and a 300-room hotel. A spokeswoman for North American said those numbers are fluid and could change.
Plans for a “premium movie theater experience,” which were referenced in information sent to The AJC, have not previously been reported publicly.
The entire Revel project, officials said, will be guided by five principles: being “festive,” “welcoming,” “vibrant,” “diverse” and a “hub of activity.”
The same team that created Avalon is being used at Revel, officials said. Wakefield Beasley will be the master architect, Kimley-Horn is the civil engineer and Site Solutions is the landscape architect.
Few specifics have been offered about the project’s site plan or its possible tenants. But North American Properties encouraged the public to attend a breakfast meeting later this month during which it will release the site plan and hold a panel discussion.
