Upcoming community meetings

Interim DeKalb County CEO May has scheduled five community meetings, and he plans to soon add three more. Each meeting will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Interim DeKalb County CEO Lee May rescheduled Thursday night's anticipated community forum, where he had planned to meet face-to-face with residents and respond to a report on government corruption.

May's announcement didn't provide a reason that the meeting was changed.

He intends to appear at five other public events, starting Tuesday at the Lou Walker Senior Center in Lithonia. The Thursday meeting had been scheduled for the Maloof Auditorium in Decatur.

The meetings, titled “Up Close and Personal,” will provide residents an opportunity to discuss the county budget, government operations and other topics with May, according to his announcement.

Investigators hired by May issued a report last week that alleged "widespread misconduct" in county government and called for him to resign.

May responded that the 40-page report was "salacious" and "wasteful," and he said he doesn't intend to step down.

DeKalb Commissioner Nancy Jester hosted Thursday night’s meeting without May, calling it “Lee May Town Hall Minus Lee May.” She planned to record video of public comments and deliver a copy of the recording to May.
