Gov. Nathan Deal continued Thursday to pull from the ranks of Republican lawmakers to fill top posts in state government, naming Rep. Tim Bearden, R -- Villa Rica, as his choice for director of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center.
Bearden, a former law enforcement officer, would replace Dale Mann, who is retiring from the post after more than 25 years of service. He would take charge of a facility that houses the Georgia Corrections Academy; and training units of a number of state agencies including the Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.
The appointment, pending approval by the Georgia Board of Public Safety, would take effect Nov. 1. Other recent appointments by Deal have included Sen. Mitch Seabaugh, R-Sharpsburg, as deputy state treasurer; Sen. Jim Butterworth, R-Cornelia, as adjutant general of the Georgia National Guard; and Rep. James Mills, R-Gainesville, to the state Board of Pardons and Parole.
