DeKalb County plans to demolish 25 dilapidated homes before the end of the year, part of an effort to clean up neighborhoods.

The homes that will be razed are often abandoned properties where the owner hasn’t paid property taxes. These residences drag down nearby home values and attract vagrants.

“These properties have been a pox on their respective communities for a long time,” said DeKalb spokesman Burke Brennan.

The DeKalb Sanitation Department will use its staff and resources to expedite the process of house demolition.
