Power has been restored to Gwinnett County’s Simpson Elementary School lost power and one building at South Gwinnett High School, a district spokeswoman said Wednesday afternoon.

Both schools had the disruptions after high winds and strong thunderstorms caused extensive damage and power outages throughout metro Atlanta Tuesday evening.

Officials used emergency generators at the schools until the electricity was restored, said Gwinnett school district spokeswoman Sloan Roach.

Trees fell across several streets in DeKalb County as well as other parts of metro Atlanta.

Some DeKalb County schools were temporarily without power Wednesday, officials said. Several other North Georgia school districts delayed the start time of classes.
