Former President Jimmy Carter, 96, and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, 93, shared a sweet New Year’s Eve kiss in Plains, Georgia.

The couple has been married for 74 years, and longtime friend Jill Stuckey took a photo of their special moment for Facebook.

“I caught these folks kissing in my driveway tonight! If that doesn’t make your New Year start out right nothing will!!” she captioned the photo.

Stuckey is the superintendent of the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site.

The photo was taken about 8 p.m. on New Years Eve, Stuckey said.

She told Channel 2 that the photo was their New Year’s kiss, adding that the couple was “always ahead of the crowd.”

The Carters also celebrated the start of 2021 by watching a blue peanut made of lights drop, Stuckey said. They dropped the peanut at 8 p.m. because they didn’t want to stay up until midnight, according to Stuckey.

Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter: Rosalynn Carter said she thinks she fell in love first with a photograph. Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter went on to be the longest married couple in presidential history — married for more than 77 years until her death in November 2023.
