Gwinnett County to keep property tax rates the same; bills may rise
Gwinnett County commissioners on Tuesday voted to keep property tax rates the same as they were in 2013 — but with home values rising, the same rate will mean higher tax bills for many Gwinnett County residents.
“As an individual who has spent as much time as I have dealing with the finances of this county, I believe this is the prudent thing to do,” Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash said.
The vote was approved 4-1. The commissioners had the option to roll back the tax rate. Now, Gwinnett property owners pay 7.4 mills. For the cost to taxpayers to be the same, the county would have had to roll back its tax to 6.9 mills.
Some property owners will see their tax bills rise, regardless of any change, while some will see them fall.
