GBI investigating case of missing child
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the case of a missing child who was later located safe in Florida.
According to the agency, the 12-year-old girl was reported missing about 11 a.m. July 14. Her family believed she had run a routine errand, but she never returned home. She was reported missing to Cornelia, Georgia, police about 8 p.m. The GBI was called in about 10:30 p.m.
Throughout the night, police determined the missing child likely left her home to meet someone she met online. The GBI said Martin Francisco-Tomas, approximately 20, traveled to Cornelia and took the child with him to Palm Beach County, Florida.
Francisco-Tomas was located with the child at a residence in Florida and is now in custody. Francisco-Tomas is pending extradition back to Georgia to face charges. Additional charges are expected.
