Georgia businesses get more time to file annual registrations

Georgia businesses large and small will have a little extra time this year to file annual registrations with the state.

Secretary of State Brian Kemp is giving companies until May 31 to make the filings. They had been due by April 1. Kemp's office recently updated its Corporations Division website, which caused a delay in being able to file the registrations online. The filings are usually made by registered agents for companies.

Registrations are required for all for-profit and non-profit corporations, limited liability companies, limited partnerships and professional corporations. According to spokesman Chris Perlera, the Secretary of State’s Office processed 494,852 registrations in the 2012 fiscal year ending June 30.

Corporations that do not file registrations may be dissolved by the state or barred from doing business in Georgia. The registration information includes the entity’s management structure, mailing address and registered agent’s name and address.

The filing fees are $50 for for-profit corporations, LLCs and LPs, and $30 for non-profits. The late filing fee is $25.
