Georgia's furry weather prognosticator says it's gonna stay cold for six more weeks.

Shown from his days in Gwinnett County, General Beauregard Lee is the state's star rodent for the annual Groundhog Day prediction. He now resides in Jackson in Butts County, and on Feb. 2, 2019, he saw his shadow, which means six more weeks of winter. (AJC file photo)

General Beauregard Lee stepped out of his home at Dauset Trails Nature Preserve in Butts County on Saturday morning and saw his shadow, which means that instead of an early spring, metro Atlanta will have to endure six more harsh weeks of cold. (We won't tell the General that highs are expected to hit the 70s next week in the area.)

This was Lee’s second year celebrating Groundhog Day at Dauset Trails in Jackson. His former predictions were made for years from the Yellow River Game Ranch in Gwinnett County before it closed.

The nature preserve lost its live feed online Saturday during the annual ritual but confirmed that Gen. Lee indeed saw his shadow.
