Atlanta attorney expected to be confirmed as FBI director

The chairman of the U.S. Senate’s Judiciary Committee says he will move quickly to confirm designated FBI Director Chris Wray but members have until tomorrow to submit additional questions to the Atlanta attorney nominated to be the nation’s top cop.

Even before Wray's confirmation hearing was completed on Wednesday, several Judiciary Committee members -- Republicans and Democrats -- were already announcing their support for President Donald Trump's choice to succeed fired FBI Director James Comey.

During 5 ½ hours of questions and answers, Wray repeatedly vowed to remain independent of the White House and said he would resign if he is pushed to do anything unethical or illegal,

Wray also disagreed with the president’s contention that the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller is a witch hunt. He said he believed the findings by national security agencies that Russia meddled in last year’s presidential election.
