A South Georgia deputy is in jail after investigators said he body-slammed a handcuffed woman while she was in custody.

The GBI charged 48-year-old Mark Gibson with aggravated battery and violation of oath of office in connection with the incident, which happened in McIntosh County.

The McIntosh sheriff’s office contacted the GBI on Tuesday alleging that a deputy had “severely injured” a woman who was in custody. Investigators determined Gibson had body-slammed the woman while she was in handcuffs, causing “serious injury,” the GBI said.

Gibson turned himself into the McIntosh County Jail. His employment status is not clear.
