Metro Atlanta can count eight more reasons to be thankful it’s Friday.
All eight are points on the temperature scale. Friday’s projected high is 50 degrees, making the day slightly warmer than Thursday with its high of 42, according to Channel 2 Action News. Temperatures remain below average for this time of year.
“It will be a little bit warmer than yesterday,” Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said. “Still on the cool side, but overall looking good if you have any outdoor activities planned.”

There will also be more sunshine to look forward to Friday, she said. By the lunch hour, she expects the sun to help warm the city up into the 40s from a freezing start in the 30s. Temperatures should reach their peak by early afternoon, she said.
“We’re looking really nice all the way through the afternoon,” Deon said. “This evening, though, we will be cool. We’ll have a mostly clear sky, and that’s going to allow temperatures to drop pretty quickly.”
Deon suggested grabbing the extra blankets and readying the heaters for what will be another frigid night across North Georgia. Temperatures are expected to drop back into the 20s all across the region before the sun comes up Saturday morning.
An early morning wind will make it feel more like 25 degrees in Atlanta, according to Channel 2.
Saturday should see more sunshine with an even clearer sky, but Deon said clouds will start to increase again Sunday ahead of the next 40% chance of rain.
“We’re watching out for that opportunity for a few showers as we get toward the end the weekend,” she said.
By Sunday, temperatures should finally return to their seasonal levels with a projected high of 53. Early next week, Atlanta could warm back up into the upper 50s for some above-average highs, according to the latest forecast.

It may be cold, most metro Atlanta interstates are moving at typical speeds as the morning drive winds down, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Construction projects are just getting started, which may contribute to delays. The Traffic Center is advising drivers to use caution when leaving I-285 in Cobb County, where roadwork has set up in the right lane on I-75 North at Windy Hill Road.
