A little rain in metro Atlanta’s forecast should not impede plans to get outside and enjoy the weekend, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The nice weather begins Friday with a partly cloudy sky and temperatures this afternoon in the mid-80s. There is no chance of rain Friday, but both days this weekend carry a 30% chance of showers and storms.

“We should be fairly dry, just an isolated storm chance Saturday and Sunday,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “We’re not going to see the widespread heavy downpours that we did last weekend.”

Beginning Saturday, rain is in the forecast each day through early next week. Still, Monahan said any rainfall won’t amount to much more than a half-inch of accumulation. It definitely won’t be a washout, he said.

“Very little rain chance in the forecast over the weekend, and no rain out there right now,” he said. “A nice start to the day ... and it should stay mainly dry through the afternoon.”

Atlanta’s projected high is 85 degrees Friday.

“These numbers, while warm, are actually a little bit below average,” Monahan said. “And that’s not going anywhere over the next few days. Temperatures will be mild and slightly cooler than average through the weekend.”

Conditions are improving after two earlier crashes shut down two busy freeways Friday morning, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

The eastbound lanes of I-20 reopened just before 6:30 a.m. in Conyers after authorities cleared a crash at Ga. 138. There are no alternate routes needed, and traffic remains lighter than normal in the opposite direction headed toward DeKalb County, the Traffic Center reported.

In Buckhead, some delays remain after the northbound lanes of Ga. 400 were shut down with an earlier crash. Lanes are slowly reopening at the I-285 interchange, according to the Traffic Center.
